Wentworth Museum to Host Dave Brubeck Exhibit

West Florida Historic Preservation Inc. and the Jazz Society of Pensacola in collaboration with the Mobile Arts Council will host the traveling exhibit, "The Times of Dave Brubeck." The exhibit will be at the T.T. Wentworth Jr. Florida State Museum from Aug. 19 through Sept. 4. The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cabinet of Curiosities

This series of exhibits, titled Cabinet of Curiosities, is a homage to the enthusiastic collecting spirit of T. T. Wentworth, Jr., whom the museum is named after. People throughout the local area who have a particular extensive and special collection may have the opportunity to share it with the public. The current exhibit in the Wentworth Cabinet of Curiosities series is a salt and pepper shaker collection from Mrs. Ruth Paige of Century, Fla. Her collection of salt and pepper shakers numbers more than 800 pairs.

Diminutive Dwellings: A World in Scale Exhibit

This charming new exhibit traces the history of dollhouses and their popularity throughout history. It will also showcase the gift of 42 dollhouses given to West Florida Historic Preservation, Inc. by Jane Forney. Ten of the houses from the collection will be on display at this time; other houses will be rotated into the display at the beginning of the summer.

Dr. Patricia Harrison to Present Lecture on Women's Suffrage Movements.

The University of West Florida Department of History, Pensacola Historical Society, and Pensacola League of Women Voters will present a lecture by distinguished scholar Patricia Harrison on Tuesday, September 16. The event will take place at 6:00 pm at the Beacon Room, 110 Church Street, in downtown Pensacola. Dr. Harrison will deliver a lecture on connections between the British and American suffrage movements. Dr. Harrison is Chair of the Department of History at Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL, and author of Connecting Links: The British and American Woman Suffrage Movements, 1900-1914 (Greenwood Press, 2000).
